Do the French Know Something About Skinny Fat?
Skinny fat is the new term describing thin framed people who actually carry quite a bit of fat and are at higher risk for disease than it would seem based on first glance.
Most of us know that carrying too much weight (real fat) can increase our risk for all sorts of diseases.
What most of us do not know is that people who look thin could actually be at high risk as well.
Just because you are thin and look good, does not mean you are healthy!
What do the French know about this? I really don’t know. But I do know a really smart French Guy who knows something about it.. enter Charles Poliquin. He’s the coach of multiple medal winning Olympians and professional athletes. He knows a thing or two about health and fitness.
So if you are one of the skinny people who is under-muscled and carrying around too much body fat – check out these rules
- Stop doing so much Cardio!!! I can’t stress this enough. Cardio is not something that produces health. It produces a greater capacity to do that specific activity, but does not necessarily increase your health. Chronic cardio is not healthy and takes a toll on your joints and increase damage to your body through free radical proliferation. Cardio also eats muscle tissue. You will not build strength and bootilicious muscle if you’re doing too much cardio.
- Eat More! I can’t tell you the number of women I see who are eating less than 1500 calories a day. And they aren’t losing weight!! Some are eating only 800 calories a day and can’t lose fat! This is not only inhumane, depressing and dangerous, but it’s exactly the wrong strategy. I know bodybuilding coaches who have helped people lose body fat while increasing calories. But you have to eat the right types of food and do some strength training.
- Eat Fat! Good news, the whole low fat eating thing? Finally been debunked. While it works for some people, it’s not for everyone. And really, pure sugar is fat free, so go ahead and eat as much of that as you want and tell me how you look and fee in 6 months. Fat builds our cell membranes, makes up most of our brain, builds our hormones and is used for oh so many necessary functions. I bet you’ll be smarter and feel better if you get enough healthy fat. Healthy fat is NOT vegetable oil. While it sounds pretty healthy, it’s one of the most toxic things you can eat. Try coconut, avocado, olive oil, and fat from grassfed, grass finished and pastured animals. Trust me, you can lose weight while eating a ton of fat. I did not say you can lose weight eating a lot of fat AND a lot of carbs. Big difference.
- That’s right, strong is the new skinny! No one wants to be weak. Lifting weights will not make women bulky. That’s more dependent on being a genetic freak or taking male hormones. Lifting will help you burn bodyfat easier, be more
